Istanbul Climate Change Action Plan Stakeholder Groups gathered to discuss the “climate change action plan harmonization recommendations” agenda
“İSTİDEP” Stakeholder Group Information Meeting was held on Tuesday, July 11th and included presentations as well as discussions at tables. The Istanbul Climate Change Action Plan Stakeholder workshop was held at the Piyalepaşa DoubleTree-Hilton Hotel and proved to be highly efficient. IMM General Secretary Hayri Baraclı, IMM Deputy Secretary General Nihat Macit, IMM Environmental Protection Director Fuat Alarçin, İSTAÇ A.Ş. General Manager Fahrettin Soran, TÜBİTAK Scientific Board Member Prof. İzzet Öztürk and many other esteemed scientists, lecturers, academicians and sector representatives participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, extensive roundtable meetings on water resources management, public infrastructure, buildings, energy production and distribution, land use, forestry, biodiversity and agriculture, industry, transport and logistics, public health, tourism, trade and socio-cultural building issues were held. Experts in relevant sectors discussed emission reduction recommendations and climate change adaptation proposals for their sectors.
A “Stakeholder Group Workshop” was planned to be held on 11 July 2017 as part of the Istanbul Climate Change Action Plan (ICCAP) preparatory work carried out by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
The workshop aims to provide a forum for the coordination of workshops, solution proposals and responsibilities by experts, scientists, authorities, representatives of non-governmental organizations, units and subsidiaries of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, to create a city structure that is more resilient to greenhouse gas emissions, inevitable effects of climate change and to contribute to the mitigation of greenhouse emissions.
The workshop will be held through work groups created in ten key sectors including “Waste Management”, “Water Resources Management”, “Public Infrastructure”, “Building”, “Energy Production and Distribution”, “Land Use, Forestry, Biodiversity and Agriculture”, “Industry”, “Transport and Logistics”, “Public Health “,” Tourism, Trade and Socio-Cultural Context”.
Prepared by the Environment Protection Department of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Environment Protection and Control Directorate within the scope of the European Union Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) and presented to the Capacity Building in Turkey on Climate Change Grant Program, “Improving Climate Change Awareness and Engagement in Istanbul” project was found successful and accepted.
The aim of the project, which will start in September and last for 18 months, is to increase cooperation between local authorities in terms of the fight against climate change and adaptation, to ensure the sharing of information and experiences and to raise awareness among the public.”
